    Sunday 28th May 2006
Pabianice Landsmanshaft of Melbourne who are survivors, together with second and third generation Pabianicier and their families and friends held their revived annual yizkor service.
It was at the Jewish Holocaust Centre, 13-15 Selwyn Street, Elsternwick, 3185, Sunday 28th May 2006 at 3pm.

The Yizkor Memorial Service was followed by a DVD about Pabianice and Jack Ekstein gave a brief talk about his recent trip to the town. Whilst there, he visited the Jewish cemetery and found it to be in a very bad condition.

He has also managed to find out the names of 604 people buried in the cemetery and a copy of this was available on the afternoon for perusal.

This second sefer torah, donated by the Roth family was purchased in Israel in 1951 and is used regularly at the Montefoire Homes Synagogue.
It has quite a history associated with it, as at one stage it was loaned to the Gold Coast Hebrew Congregation.
If anyone visits the Montefoire Homes Synagogue, please take the time to read the plaque there acknowledging the generosity of the Roth family.
They also donated the stained glass windows - the artwork was done by their friend Mrs Adele Shaw nee Unglick.

The late Mr Roth was also involved in setting up The Pabianicer House on Punt Road South Yarra near Domain Road the late 1940's.
The Pabianicer House was used regularly for card nights, fund raisers, social gatherings etc. as in this era, our Landsleit had good membership numbers, and was a vibrant and active Club during the 50's and 60's.
We would appreciate any more information about this to be forwarded to harry@harryc.com.
